Question Dana 60 a direct bolt-on?

Since I have my truck I have had this Idea of swapping my current rear axle (Eaton HO52) for a Dana 60.
Now I have had some info on this seen before on the board, but with the search not working
I can not find it any more. (I know I should have saved it on my harddrive )
If I can find a Dana 60 axle (Which will be a difficult task on it's own ),
will this be a direct bolt-on under my 71 C/20 Longorn? Or are there miner things to rebuild?
Has anybody did this, and can post some pictures?
Thanks in advance.

Cya,
Edmond

Yep, just seen the pictures. Thanks very much.
Now at first glance it looks the same, but I will check tomorrow, to compare the pictures you've made.
Thanks again.

The spring spacing for these year trucks is either 40" 4wds and C30s or 42.5" 2wds. I have a 71 dana 60 from a C20 in my garage w/ 42.5" and the dana60 in the rear of my K25 is 40". These are leaf sprung axles. They are the same over all width. Too bad you weren't closer I'd sell you the dana 60 in my garage.

So you think it should be no problem swapping a Dana 60 for my old Eaton HO52?

If anybody has ever done this swap please let me know.
Thanks.

Edmond

jtminton, they did make a coil Dana 60. I have several.

Edmond. Unless the Dana you find was in a big block Longhorn you will need to make some modifications for it to work. I sold a Dana 60 with 3.54 rears to someone that put it in his longhorn. I know he had to weld on new spring perches, and change the driveshaft length. I also think he had to change the shock mounts to a new location. It wasn't difficult and he is very happy with the swap.

Thanks for the info.
I deceided to do something else. I'm going the disc conversion way like in this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=154617
This way I get to keep my own axle with the NoSpin diff and have it much easier when checking the brakes.

Cya,
Edmond

Well, if you ever happen to be driving around Fort Worth with one in the back of your truck, let me know.
