Newly Installed heater motor not working - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Along with my instrument panel outlined in the previous post, my used hearter fan also does't work. I checked the power and it has power which works with the switch as I expected it would. I also checked the ground for the fan and it appears fine.

My first conclusion was that the fan was junk. So I grabed another used fan and plugged it in and used a jumper wire to get a ground, it also doesn't work. Now I am starting to wonder if it is the fans or is it something else.

I have one more used fan I can take off and try.

Anyone have advice?

Mebbe the switch? I've had trouble with those.

Trying hooking the fan directly to the battery and ground to see if it turns.

You are checking for voltage at the fan connector? All mating surfaces of the grounding strap are clean?

I tried connecting the fans directly to the battery. I appears only power is supplied via a wire and the housing of the fan serves as the ground. Is that true?

If so, maybe I have two junk fans.

yes...sorta!
Power (+12V) is applied to the terminal on heater motor, But make sure you have the ground strap attached to one of the mounting bolts on the outer perimeter of the heater motor base....if that allows the motor to "work" correctly...start looking elsewhere for the problem....ie, switch, fuse, wiring, relay, heater resistor pack, etc...

Yes, that is true. The heater motor is a "case" ground. That is why I asked if all mating surfaces of the grounding strap were clean.
