bad sound
I just changed my oil drove it checked for leaks hear a knocking sound by were the engine and tranny join together. Can only hear it good when engine idels above idle can not hear but could be because of engine noise. I seem to think this same thing happened last time I changed my oil for like a week?
Any thoughts Thanks guys

im willing to bet its the flex plate.. if an oil passage were blocked everytime the truck sat where the oil drained out of the passage it would still bang. keep checking the noise its prolly still there the rest of the time
if you want you could do a motor flush to rule out the blocked oil passage

the flex plate is like a flywheel if its cracked ( thats what makes the noise) its got to be replaced and thats about $50-70 at your local auto parts store the thing is you have to remove the trans or at the very least support it and slide it forward under the body so that you could get to the flex plate

Do you think it could just be louder because the new oil is thiner and just seems louder with the new oil?

But why would it quit after the oil has been in the engine for a week? Then start up again when he changes oil again. Does not make since (to me any way)

what oil ur runnin if its a higher grade is because the oil is thick and after awhile it thins but the thick oil takes awhile to get thru the motor if there is restrictions in it my motor i pulled out of my truck had 340,000 miles and it had like oil that was in there for ever that turned in to chunks of stuff but the motor never smoked it used ail because of bad seals but it ran damn good till i spun a rod bearing but it was a factory ls6 motor

use 15-50 mystik, it's pretty thick, and it might help the noise go away, that might help, maybe for now

This is to WEIRD!! I noticed the same thing last weekend when I changed my oil. I had a friend look at mine and he said it was a loose torque convertor since the sound went away when I put it in reverse. You might give that a try.
edit: I think I noticed it during the oil change just because I pulled my truck into the garage , so there was more echo. So it didn't really have anything to do with the oil.
