Smoothing Firewall

what does it take to go from the first picture to the second picture? (I'm not interested in A/C either) I'm not too worried about keeping the heater functional right away but would want it eventually. Who's done this and what's involved?

You pretty much have to buy an aftermarket kit or fabricate your own internal heater box with the coil and blower. All of the A/C kits for our trucks offer a shaved firewall with a plate to put over the holes...

Regarding the holes in the firewall, you "simply" weld in pieces of sheet metal to fill them. I smoothed mine and as of now have no heater. I eventually may fab up an under dash heater box/blower but for now am just going to run it without heat since it'll be only a fair weather truck.
