Rack and pinion?

Does anyone make a manual rack setup for our trucks? I would love to do away with my power box, but I wasn't sure if I had to fab a rack in or if there was a kit.

I'm not sure if you are trying to find a kit that uses the original crossmember. I haven't seen one exist. The only kit that I've come across is the Fatman Bolt-in Kit that comes with a R&P crossmember. I think I've seen them listed for $999 in the rags.

is there a manual steering box for the 78-87 trucks? This is a topic I have little knowledge on, so I'm kinda lost.

manual steering box

Hey 87 shortbed
i think you can use a steering box from a 67-72 chevy truck and just change your pitman arm. but you might dble check. i live in park city,so if you need to locate parts i might be able to help. i go to the salvage yards about every weekend, hope this helps.

I know a guy with an older 73-87 that had manual steering. I saw the truck, so I know it was available.

Yes you can get a manual steering box for these truck. They typically are found on 6cyl base models. I had one on mine '73. BTW, they are a PTA to steer with running anything larger than about 245's.
