Anyone have classic Car/truck insurance?

Anyone use the companys that advertise on TV, Haggery,Grundy etc. The rates look good, just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with them or any other insurance company that has this type of coverage?

After shopping around I found that the Great American Insurance Co. fit my needs better than the others. I got $20,000 full coverage for less that just liability with allstate. This is not a advertisement for them just my .02

I'm still shopping, right now I have "GQ" insured w/ the rest of my stuff
through ALLSTATE, I pay only $12.50 a year for $15K in coverage, but I
can't drive it, this is what they call suspended coverage, but it is a full
replacement value policy if something should happen to it at my house

I use American Collectors Insurance. The vehicle has to be kept in an enclosed garage but it can be driven a limited number of miles per year. Coverage is for an agreed upon replacement value and the premium is per/$1000 of coverage. They were a little hesitant to cover a truck until they understood it was a collectable and not a work truck. I had to send in photos.

Im hunting. For $14k in coverage most are around $140.00 per year. My current Pemco coverage pays out blue book and collision at $540.00 year.

I dont have a garage yet. Anyone know of any classic ins companies that do not have the "garage clause" in their policy?

They know about them but they also get a lot of people trying to insure daily drivers and beat up work trucks just because its cheap. They needed photos to show the truck was restored and worth the amount it was covered for. http://www.americancollectorsins.com/

Here's my insurance saga:

I couldn't live with limited miles, so I had the truck appraised ($14,000.00! Surprised the Hell out of me!) and insured it with Hartford for a stated value for about $700.0 0 a year here in Phoenix. That means it starts out worth that much and depreciates from there. I'm going to get it appraised every other year or when I do something major to upgrade it. Least this way if it gets cubed, I can buy another one from one of you guys and start over.

American Collectors. When I had a claim 4 - 5years ago there was no problem. Costs me about $150 a year to insure my 62 Impala. Inexpensive and great service. Can't ask for much more.

For you guys w/Allstate just wait until you have a claim. They love to collect your money but when it comes to paying out they're not so great.

If I had not covered my receipts and pictures w/ my agent I would agree
with that statement, however I think my guy, same one for last 8 years,
would make sure I am taken care of, since he wrote my policy specificaly
for my vehicle and did not just use one of the standard ones in his puter

I've been having issues getting someone to cover me for my Suburbans. I talked to Condon & Skelly and also to J.C.Taylor at Carlisle and they both said that they wouldn't insure it "because of the risk of me using it to tow or haul something, which could result in a claim.". Others tell me that they won't insure it because it is a "station wagon". My question is, what if it was a 56' Nomad? They wouldn't insure that?

Insurance....

I have been shopping around for my 72 4X4 and have found most of the collector car insurance companies will insure for stated value but you have to give up your right to use your truck as a truck.....you can take it to shows, parades, cruises, etc but dont get caught towing anything or running to the local depot for some lumber or something....I am restoring my truck to use so this wont work for me.....I will probably end up going with my regular carrier for a stated value....they will do this as long as I get an appraisal...it will cost more but at least I can use my truck however I want....Paul K

Most collector car insurers will want a current photo of the car to show it's current condition. They also require you to have another vehicle that is your daily driver, the "collectible" car you are insuring is supposed to be garaged and will have a maximum number of miles it is driven.

The reason they have these conditions is due to the risk. If they were to provide a policy that would allow you to drive the car daily they would be exposing themselves to a much higher risk, and risk = insurance premiums so you would then have a higher insurance premium.

So if your intent is to drive your truck daily, skip over teh collectible car insurers and investigate the others. If your truck is in great shape mention this to the insurance rep and ask about stated value policies, and having your truck appraised. You will find that they will depreciate your truck's value unless you continually have it appraised showing it is still worth the stated value.

HTH

If your worried about how much mileage you can put on, Haggerty is the one to go with. They don't have a mileage limit.

Bottom line is you cannot get daily driver insurance that will cover you for an "agreed value" like the collector's policies. I tried and tried to find something. If your plans are to drive it on a daily basis, you will most likely not be covered for the replacement value of the vehicle (unless it is $2,500). The collector's policies are dirt cheap for the coverage, but that is because their risk is low...the vehicle doesn't go to work and sleeps in the garage all night. It can't haul or tow anything either.

I don't see why the big deal with the insurance companys they insure our regular cars and truck and some of them cost 30 to 50 thousand dollars. So whats the big deal with a truck thats restored that is worth 15-20 thou it not like parts for a 67-72 are hard to find .I think this all adds up to insurance BULL. Just my opin. 8bolt.

Do you think a sixteen year old can get collector insurance. And who do they know that you are using it as a daily driver.

Collector car insurance is for a car that is not your daily driver. The vehicle MUST be garaged and not for daily driver use, you agree to these terms when your purchase your insurance policy.

They require you to provide proof that you have another vehicle that is your daily driver. You must prove ownership of said vehicle as well as proof of insurance.
I suppose it's possible to own another vehicle and cancel the insurance on it after getting a company like Haggerty to provide you with a policy.

BUT

If you have to file a claim they are certainly going to check your odometer and verify you have had another vehicle insured as a daily driver. If you don't have another vehicle as a daily driver they most likely will refuse your claim for violating the terms of the policy.

My insurance company (USAA) will let you use your vehicle as a daily driver and insure it for market value. The premiums are pretty much like any other vehicle. I was trying to sale a '69 SWB Stepside a few years back for $5500. Someone stole it off the lemon lot. USAA settled with me in about two weeks and paid me $9200.

I use AAA and just recently called them to ask how they determine the value
of a stolen truck. I was told they do not use blue-book, but the cost of buying
a comparable replacement. Even though I can not specify the value, if it is
ever stolen I can show them a bunch of trucks for sale for a decent amount.

I have "Agreed Value" coverage on my 240Z for $20k. I had a claim and it was no problem at all.....the adjuster wanted to total it out ($3500 in damage to the custom tail panel) before he notice the policy description. Everything went extremely smoothly.....I can't say enough good things about Farmers!
