Went and replaced the TO bearing in the 69, clutch was still in great shape, whoever replaced it last never readjusted the linkage, and had the bearing riding the clutch fingers the whole time. Getting the tranny out was a snap, gotta love the huge removable section of the floor, was able to do 90% of the work from inside the cab. Putting the tranny back in was a pain, Me and my sister were lifting from underneath, and a friend from the top, we couldn't even budge it. I got up in the cab, straddled the thing and lifted by the shifter, got it up there but man it was heavy. Glad I didn't throw my back out. I think it's the muncie 4spd, the shifter goes in through the top, no external linkage. How much does that tranny weigh?

Not sure of the weight, but I know it's alot harder when your under a vehicle
to push things up reguardless of the weight, we were not designed for it

its probably a sm465. when i did my clutch (when it still had a 4 speed) my dad was trying to talk me into taking it some place to have it done. the first question they asked was is it a 3 speed or a 4. they charged more for the 4 speed. when i did mine i wasnt able to get it the last inch in and we wrestled with it forever. then my friend that was helping me brother came over and was bsing with us while we were doing it was sitting in the truck a steped on the clutch and it went right in. kinda pissed me of, but it was done so i wass happy

Don't know what they weigh, but when I wrestle with one, I always use a floor jack. Takes one problem out of the equasion. As my ole Grandpappy useta say, "Ya gotta work smarter, not harder"

I just moved mina across the garage yesterday. I would have to say around 75 to 100 pounds.
now do that with a NP205 Tcase bolted to it. LOL

We originally had a floor jack underneath it, but the tranny fell off when we were pulling it back from the bellhousing. The last time I changed a clutch in a 4x4, I figured it was easier to pull the engine. It would have been easier if it hadn't been a dodge with the messed up way the bellhousing surrounds the flywheel. What a mess that was.

GMC= Got More Class! 1970 GMC LWB, Fleetside, 350/4spd, Flowmaster "40's", 2002 GMC 16" Rallies, cowl hood,and added a bunch of options that weren't there when I started.
