Got my new 72 suburban!
My parents bought this suburban when they found out they were pregnant with me. I was a 4th child and the 64 GTO just didn't have enough room anymore... My dad still has the 64 GTO by the way. so anyway the first time I rode in this suburban was in 72 when my mother was pregnant with me! so for the last 33 years I have been trying to talk dad out of it. Finally convinced him! It has 217k miles and still runs pretty strong, but I am going to do a body off. has some rust on p side rocker panels and rear fenders. but thats easy enough. this is gonna be fun! Have been driving it to work no problem 30 miles each way. but getting ready to tear it down. I already ordered and received all new suspension components, front end rebuild kit from early classic. think I am going to go with a ZZ4 from GMperformanceparts. wish me luck and glad I found this site!! |

Welcome to the forums. I hope you plan on taking some pics of the 'burb soon so we can take a gander at it. Sounds like a cool project. My Dad traded off the '66 SS Chevelle when my Mom was pregnant with me for a VW Bug. I give him grief about it to this day.

Traded Vette for Me & Goat
Here you go guys,
MY dad sold his '56 Vette to have me in '63. So he did the responsible thing and went out and bought a good family car, a new '64 GTO convertible. He told me the cops gave him 24 hours to get rid of IT after they caught him with the front bumper up against a telephone pole burning the back tires down to slicks! And you wonder why your kids grow up with names like Hot Rod! Thanks for sharing a little piece of your family history with us brother, and welcome aboard. Take care, Hot Rod.

Yeah my dad got rid of his new73 Barracuda when my mom got pregnant with my older sister, but kept his 73 Ford F-100. What a shame.

actually Dad trade a luscomb airplane that he had built himself for this one!
I found it the other day, it had been wrecked but is restorable. Anybody now how to transport a nonflyable plane from AZ. to East Texas? I figure I owe him a plane! |

well here it is now, and I plan on lowering it a bit and painting. it was originally two tone white/green/white...
i want to go back to a color scheme that incorporates the green and maybe platinum... haven't nailed it down yet... but working on mechanics first. I am driving it now about 100 miles a day! which is amazing considering it has 217k miles, never had any major work done and has been sitting for 5-6 years! in about two weeks the body comes off and all of these ECE parts I already have are going on after the frame gets plasted and powder coated... |
