power windows/locks

i might part out a 77 chevy with power windows and locks, i was wondering can i just switch window regulators into my 72, then wire it, get the switches, and get it to work? i'm not sure if it's a direct replacement or not. also on the locks, i was thinking switch to power, and that will solve my shut the door, and then lock it with the key outside problem. will it?

I don't know for sure, but I don't think that would work without some mods. The doors/windows are definately different, so I don't think a regulator swap would be simple. The door lock swap may work, but I think you can buy kits (I think they are both around 150 each) for the windows and doors that are direct bolt ins AND you will have a remote for your door locks, therefore don't need to use your key again if you dont want to. If I'm wrong y'all go ahead and flame on, that's my two cents.

It depends on how "involved " you want to get. I bought a 1979 caddy for $100 to get the 425 out of but found it was bad so I took the power window regulators, switches and wiring out. With a little modifying to the regulators and some to the door it self I got power windows. I also used the power locks also it was easier, just a couple of holes to drill and attach the rod to the lock mechanism and run the wiring. I even used the disc rear end from the caddy but had to make a driveshaft, so after using a 79 disc front end I now have four wheel disc brakes. I well have got my $100 in parts from the car and can still sell the motor and 400 tranny then haul the body to scrap. Some times it may take a little more effort to do something but in the long run it's more fun and saves a little money.

Way to go ModifiedGMC, thats the way Im used to doing things, theres always a way to make things work if you take the time to figure it out, Im not much into conversion kits, all the ole guys I know have been doing this stuff for years without instructions or high dollar kits, why spend money when you can buy a donor vehicle take what you need and sell or scrap the rest.

that's what i'll probably end up doing myself if it's not to hard to modify. i wanted to know how easy it would be before hand though, guess i'll find out soon enough.
