Have any of you tinkered with this interesting "bracket" that is behind the power brake booster that is attached to the firewall? It is a horrible looking contraption, and I am thinking I would like it gone. Any input as to what "exactly" the damn thing is, or if it comes off easy?

dont know but im going to do some triming on that thing on my truck for sure or just take off if i can

Are you talking about the bracket that the booster is mounted to? Behind that is a reinforcement plate that is part of the firewall. It may not be pretty, but it is required. That is there to prevent flex in the firewall. I'm sure you could get creative and find a more attractive solution, but your going to need something there or your smoothed firewall might crack.....

That is interesting...

I kinda figured it was to support the weight of the booster and master cylinder together, but I didn't really think about it being support for the whole damn thing. I suppose I will see if there is any way I can support the thing from the inside, so it can come off, or I will just do some shaving on it to make it more presentable. Bottom line is, if it has to stay, it has to stay, but at least I can clean it up some.

im shavin my firewall and goin with aunder dash 2 resivor wildwood brake setup they make other types that r under dash but i love a clean firewall

you could relocate the master cylinder to the frame rail and have the pedal come up from the floor, like lots of street rods

why not just relocate a reinforcment plate to the inside of the firewall. I mean, if you can go through the trouble of smoothing the firewall a brace plate on the inside cant be a big deal to make can it?

I was thinking of something along those lines, of making a new reinforcement. I think I will also look into relocating the master to the inside also, now that I have no factory fuse box to deal with or anything...
