Some friends and I were at a cookout yesteday talking about restoration jobs. (He has a 72 lwb). At any rate I mentioned the Acid Dipping that has been a popular thread receintly. When we talked about priming the inner metal (ie space between ceiling and roof) I asked why not just shoot foam insulation in there, it will cut noise too. Except for the wiring, which I would make sure was all brand new and working prior to shooting the foam, is there any reason not to do this? Has anyone tried it?

Do you mean the expanding foam like used in house foundation? I know some of that stuff dries hard and if enough used it tends to expand and when it dries it will harden from the outside in. I would be woried about it warping the roof but it could probably be done. Just my opinion.

Not sure about foundataions, I know some companies are using this type product for wall insulation in homes. Good point about expansion, I guess there would be no way to control that.

Foam=bad. Traps moisture. Best to allow air to circulate.

My concern would be trapping moisture in the foam, and causing it to rust quicker than if it was just left alone. Here in Michigan that expando foam is used to fill rust holes on the "cheap fix" for beaters. It does work well to keep more heat in the veichle and cut the road noise down, but they rust at a incredibly fast rate once they are "foamed". As always just my .02

That foam is a neat concept,but overated. I used to be in the construction trade and seen where people got carried away with it. They use it around doors and windows. If you use too much it will actually affect the way they open and closed by pushing in the frame work causing rubbing.

This idea has been around a while I worked on an mg that I did not know had this foam in some viods of the body and when i was brazing a patch piece in it, nearly
set the whole car on fire. this stuff is almost impossible to get out once it is in place

Foam traps moisture. I seen a set on Grain B trains and the crossmemebers were sealed with foam. Now the only thing of the cross member that remains is the foam. Just don't do it.
