Fuel Guage doesn't work - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I recently hooked up my instrument panel on my frame off truck. With the help of some board memebers, I figured out that my panel wasn't grounded correctly and I now have most guages and and all lights working correctly.

My fuel gauge still doesn't work. I have power to the dash via the fuel guage feed wire. Power is supplied when the key is turned on. I have the brown wire from the fuel guage sending unit plugged into the fuse box where indicated. The guage doesn't move when I turn on the key. I have half a tank of gas.

Any suggestions??

Depending on if the gauge ready full or empty, your brown wire is either gounded to metal, or is cut/broken somewhere along the way. Turn the key on, then reach behind the seat and pull the wire off the sending unit. Look at the gauge and see where it is. It should be headed towards the full mark. Then ground the wire directly to some bare metal. The gauge should run the opposite way and stop at or below empty. If the needle doesn't change position, then you might have a bag gauge itself.
