Does anyone have info on replacing the gas tank behind the seat?

Whaddaya need to know? It's not hard, once you pull the seat out, siphon all the gas out. Disconnect the line under the cab. Remove the bolts holding it down and pull it out.
The hardest part is gonna be getting the filler neck back into the gasket deal that goes thru the cab.

Are you talking about moving the gas tank to the rear of the truck or just putting another tank behind the seat. On the '70 Short Bed I had I took the tank out from behind the seat and put in under the bed on the rear. You have to take out one cross (small) member and I put in a tank like what is in my Suburban. Welded the old hole in and ran filler into the driver side tail light. That has been about 15 years ago. But I liked it a lot better than right behind me and you can not smell any gas GMC Pauls board use to have some pictures on how to do this. Nothing wrong with leaving the tank behind the sean but I just wanted mine behind the rear wheels. Get it out of the cab. MO

I'd love to see some pics of the filler behind the taillight. I've only seen people run them up in the wheel well, in the bed between drivers the wheel tub and tailgate and in the actual bed floor. My dad had a 56 bel-air as a kid and showed me how the taillight flipped out and the filler was behind it and I've always wanted to try it on my 67 when and if I moved the tank under the bed. Any info would be great, but I'd love some pics. Thanks

Get a hold of GMC Paul and maby he can find pictures for you. There were pictures on his board but that has been a long time ago. It showed how to do this step by step. You are right, it is a great to put the filler. I had a lot of '55-'57 Chevies and I very well remember the gas filler behind and under the tail lights. If I remember right, on the '57 it was under the tail light and it also fliped open. Hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck.
