big nut, anyone know the size?

not the correct picture, but this same bolt on a chev 12 bolt rear. this is the nut that holds the rear yoke in place.

i found this info about 10 bolt rear...it says the bolt is 1 1/4. these big sockets are pricey i just wanna make sure 1 1/8 is correct. thanks for the input guys.

Buy a quallity socket.A lot of the cheap ones are to thick to fit.They make them thicker to make up for useing a cheaper alloy.

The problem I had with a cheap socket,it was to thick,and would not fit in the recess of the yoke to tighten the nut.The socket bottom out before the nut was set.The guy whose place I was at,had a no name set.I had to go home and get my sk set.

What you are talking about is the pinion nut. Get a good one as it can be a bear to get off sometimes.

I must not have the original nut on mine as it is 33 millimeters. Just 1.25 mm more than a inch and a quarter.

MY 10 BOLT 8.5 WAS A 1 1/8TH. Autozone has em for around $4 for a single.

The one I bought was too thick (ACE) so I ground it down to fit. I check it every day to make sure it is still in my tool box...

Check the local pawn shops, down here in Tacoma you can get a Craftsman socket from the odds & ends bucket of sockets for about 2-3 bucks. Great way to fill out a tool set for things you don't always use very often.
