truck no starty
strange kind of deal. it acts just like your trying to start the truck in other than d or n. before you jump on the neutral safety switch, already checked it out. still nota.
i tried jumping the starter, not much happens. barely a spark. yes the battery is fine, the cable is ok. the head lites come on bright. un guessing it the starter, but i never seen one this dead before. any ideas?

Does the solenoi make any noise? Can you hear the bendix clicking?

That is what I am thinking. Many a solenoid gave out on me. I know I use to cheat them alot, by cleaning the contacts in the soleoid and the tube that slides in the solenoid (forgot its offical name). I would then rotate the tube a bit so it slides and contacts on a fresh clean surface. It kept me going in my youth (when I was broke) or when I lived in Japan and couldn't run down to a local auto parts for a replacement.

ya, i think thats it too.. no click, not anything. just a small spark when you try to cross it. ill put in a starter tomorrow, its the original starter, so its proably due.

never seen a starter THAT dead. i climbed under the truck and listend when someone turned the key. all i heard was a slight hummm sound.
i replaced the starter, and started right up. strange to go from no problems to that dead in one start. as a side note, it is kinda cool to have a truck that is orginal, i just changed the orginal starter..lol not bad, 30 some years it sat on that engine.

dead starter
It was probably your starter brushes.I had the same problem thats what it was.

If you want to keep it original some shops will rebuild your starter for you. Don't do the exchange thing. Glad to see you get it running though.

a bit late there bro. i did think about that when i was turning it in. but i have not had much luck rebuilding starters and alts. everytime i do it, i wish i had done the 39.99 lifetime warentee thing....
the truck is now back in its bed, im happy, trucks happy...=)
