Intake & Carb recommendations...
Can anyone tell me the what my options are for a 283 small block? It was a 2 bbl originally and I'd like to make it a 4 bbl. I haven't really been able to research it too much but I want to be able to upgrade to a 4 bbl without really having to deal with old rebuilt carbs and possibly restricter plates/ spacers. I have a stock 283 (no performance mods) and I'd like to get a setup that is easier to maintain (i.e. better parts availability, etc.). Should I, or can I bolt up a newer 4 bbl aluminium intake, and which ones etc, etc?
Thanks for any suggestions. Brian

Edelbrock 2101 intake with your choice of carb would be good. I got a 2101 and a qjet on my 350 and it runs good.

howdy;
whoevers intake for under 5000 rpm operation ( I ended up with a nice used Edelbrock "Perfomer"), and a 500 cfm ( or smaller!) four barrel. Holley had a 390cfm square-bore that was nice, and was popular for engines like yours (under 300 CID, not "built up"). Have a 68 mustang with an otherwise stock 289, edelbrock performer intake, and a 600 cfm Holley. Feel I should have gone smaller on the carb. A 600 seems OK on my otherwise stock (with Edelbrock performer) 350 SBC. Just my $0.02 cowboy33713 |
