454 or stay with a 350? 74 K5

I was contemplating putting a 454 I was about to go pick up tomorrow into my 74 K5. A friend of mine who has owned several good 4wd Toyotas thinks the big block will be too much power and be a parts breaker. He has seen it happen a lot on the rocks and I plan to do some wheeling on the rocks when it is done. I am not worried about the gas mileage or anything just wondering you guys opinion on whether the 454 with a mild build would be toooo much power. I know I know theres no such thing right? lol

I also thought about pulling the 355 out of the 75 Jimmy and using it in the K5 and using the 454 in the Jimmy.

Well the 92k miles is kinda a funny story......it is the actual miles but the truck has not been driven in at least 10 years and it sat outside for most of that time without a top....a tree limb fell on it and crushed it according to the guy I bought it from .....for $200 at that I figure the transfer case is worth that much anyway lol. It will be basically a complete rebuild on it anyway.

I know its been done before but I am not sure of the being a "parts breaker" would definantley be sweet to have a 454 in there.

So what kinda drive train/axles you got under there? Stock?
I just droped a 454 in my 72 and it is the best thing sence sliced bread
My drivetrain is far from stock though. I did mild rock crawling with the 350 I had and I expect it to be even better now as I will not need as much RPM to do the same thing with the 454. Plus fireroads, muddin, sand dunes, etc...is all WAY more fun now with a RAT thumpin the heartbeat!!! I say go for it. The 454 will bolt right up to your SBC crossmember and bell housing...DoIt

I was planning on eventually running basically the same setup you have with the exception of possibly using a turbo 400........thats what was in it and I feel like a clutch is just one more thing to go wrong lol

Got the engine today and just got back home after leaving @ 9:30 am......18 hours of driving and pulling and loading an engine and trans,,, woohooo bedtime for me.
