Post your VIN, some one will have the decoder. if you fear the internet fake title thing, then leave off the last few digits.

HELP with a 1970 GMC VIN

I am guessing GMC is different than Chevy. This is all I know but not sure if it is correct. Can someone with a 1970 share their VIN (less the last 5 digits)

C = Chassis
E = Engine
1 = GVW Range
34 = Model Code ??? (the Chevy is only a single digit)
S = Model Year ???
Z = Assembly Plant
74856 = Serial Number

Thanks for link even though you realized it was only up to 69. I tried to decode their example and it was incorrect. It should not be this difficult to find a VIN decoder for a 1970 GMC! Thanks again.

Up to the "Z", my vin is the same as yours.
C= conventional cab
E= V-8
1= 3600-5600 GVW
34= Fleetside
S= Can't find info on this letter
Z= Freemont

Hope this helps?

C= Convential
E= V-8
1= 1/2 ton
34= Fleetside pickup
S= Assembly Plant--St. Louis
Z= Model Year. 70

At least thats what I read once somewhere about how GMC truck vins differ from Chevy Vins. Still trying to find where I read that. Don't know if its right.

Mine is CE 234-FZ

Edit (added) Might add that if someone has a build sheet it might help also. I have one somewhere for a 69 GMC I once had but I cannot seem to find it right now.

tomatocity = CE134SZ
C = 2wd ; E = V-8 Gas; 1 = 1/2 ton (3900 - 5800 ?) ; 34 = Fleetside; S = St. Louis;
Z = 1970

70 blowngmc = CS104ZZ
C = 2wd; S = I-6 Gas; 1 = 1/2 ton; 04 = Stepside; Z = Fremont; Z = 1970

Mine is CE134SZ. If you try looking in book stores that sell old books you might get lucky and find some usefull books like I did. The one yellow book "Catalog of Chevy Truck ID Numbers 1946 - 1972" which you can still get in book stores for like $20, I found in an old book store for $7. And lots of other books like Mechanical manuals and Transmission manuals also.

Do either of you know your engines numbers on the front passenger side in front of the head?
