Cool Air Intake set up suggestions? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey and Good day!!!

Has anyone found a clean and easy way to get cool air intake set up on their chevys.

I would love to put some kind of a "hat" on top of my throttle body so that I could then plumb a 4" air duct hose to some spot on the truck to get cool air to the intake..

I have thought about a couple of different ways to do it. Possibly cut the wheel well out in a select location and build or install some sort of a box/intake port, so as to bring air in from the area above the tire in the wheel well on the driver side.
Put some kind of a baffle so that water and mud and dirt would not get flung in to the intake port of the set up..

Any advice, hints on how you may have done this, or have seen it done, would be greatly appreciated..

I had thought about just a ram air tube through the front panel to the side of the headlight. Cut that out and put a ram air tube to there..

Use a cowl induction hood and use a NASCAR like air cleaner assembly plumbed to get air intake from the cowl opening in the hood, similar to the '69 Z28 with cowl induction.

I believe your best bet is to get your air from the front since you are fuel injected with a throttle body. The guys with cards can use a tray and a cowl hood. What I would like to try is cut a rectangler hole in my firewall at the factory cowl intake, make a sealed air cleaner box and duct between the two. I don't know what to use for the flex joint though. This is the way I have seen the Nascar setup, but thier engines are hard bolted and don't flex like ours. Any help would be great, Steve

Interesting idea, neonlarry. Since he has TBI, he doesn't need a single duct to channel all air thru the MAF. I wonder how the dual inlets would affect air turbulence, with regard to the A/F charge density and any need for a port friendly swirl in the intake charge.

I had thought that someone with a G.M.C truck had done a very nice mod like this with pic's and a wirte-up but cannot seem to find it now maybe the board member will reply to this thread?
