Speedo Reset (Zero Miles)

If you have the odometer wheel out just hold it in your left hand with fingers holding the first metal tab(left to right) and turn the gear with other hand until you have 9 in the ten thousand place. Then just keep holding the first metal tab and now hold the second metal and turn until you have 99***. Then you do the same for the rest until 99999. Then I just reinstall the wheel and then turn the speedo by hand a few turns until 00000. Hope that helps.

When I pulled the wheel the little plastic tabs broke up and fell out.
Do I need to use these tabs again or are they for tampering purposes?

Yes you'll need to make another one, I usaully use a piece of plastic about the same thickness as your broke one and cut to size, then just cut the slots out with exacto knife.

something to note, this is NOT illegal in most states. If you are resetting for restoation reasons, or for maintenance reasons (new engine or total rebuild) then you are 100% alloud to do it. When i registered my truckl last march, she asked what my odometer reading was, I told her 28 and told her I reset it when I did the engine swap. She said no problem and typed that onto my title.
As long as you are not trying to profit off an inacurate reading, then it is not against the law. I personally recomend a perminant sticker in the door jamb or glove box stating speedo reset at xxx,xxx miles, this pretty much proves the intent of not ripping anyone off.
