What's a '87 Silverado Worth?? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My uncle has a 2wd 1987 Chevy Silverado with the short fleetside bed. He bought it brand new and has taken very good care of it over the years except that it's been parked for the last 4 or 5 years in his garage and hasn't been touched. It's loaded option wise except it just has the fuel injected 305 instead of the 350. 90,000 original miles and It's red with a red interior. He's thought about possibly selling it to me but is unsure as to what it would be worth. Any ideas or comparable trucks for sale so that I can give him an idea? I've checked the local classifieds with no luck.

^LOL, I agree too!! Somewhere around 3,000 $$$ maybe. Its family so he should cut you some slack.

The prices being quoted seem in line for a truck that is being driven. As long as it has been sitting, it may cost some money to get it back on the road. Make sure you take things like that into account if it has been in storage.

I agree with that not knowing what needs to be done makes it hard to determine what a reasonable price is. Cold-rolled guess is $2500, allowing for low miles/one-owner/sentimental value, and trying to allow for what might need replacing due to just sitting and age in general for an 18 year old truck. If you can go over it first to assess those things, it might be a bit more...or less, depending.

Having said that, I have a 1977 2 wheel drive short bed Silverado, red/red, 350/350, and runs well with original 177,000 miles. I'll be glad to take the risk with the 1987 if you want to do that

and I only live about 2 hours away in Roswell

Just for some more info I bought this http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=159233 for $1500 in douglasville 2 weeks ago. It has a 305 (carbed non computer) and a 3 speed auto. Its in ugly primer but the body is very straight. The underside is rust free. The paint on the cab corners isnt even damaged. The tires are shot, the dash cracked, the seat torn, basically the interior is shot. It has power steering, power brakes, manual windows, and non functioning A/C. It runs great but bombs emissions. The Carburator Specialist on the south loop in Marietta says the vapor canister is shot and is full of fuel making the truck run rich which raises the carbon monoxide. I will have $50 in emissions inspections, $85 for the carburator specialist to diagnose it for me, plus $150 in emissions parts (needs an EGR too) plus about $400 in tires. After that I still have a primer truck with broke A/C and a shot interior. Please someone tell me I didnt do too bad.

Mikesz, it doesn't sound bad, esp with the body in straight shape. For me, body rust is a deal breaker, but that's me; some folks have the skills/time/patience and body stuff is no big deal.

I say keeping the truck in the family and with the truck sitting so long should be worth something for your uncle to cut you a good deal. I as well as everbody else I am sure would like to see pictures of your uncles truck. I would say with the family discount and sitting so long- around $2,000 to $2,500. If really nice maby around $3,000. But would still like to see some pictures posted on here.
