I'm getting the itch to tear apart my blazer. I'm wondering how much of it needs to stay together in order to rebuild the tub portion of the body. Is it ok to take off the front clip? Can the doors be removed? I know the top needs to stay on in order to do tub body work.

You can remove eveything if the rockers are solid, if not leave the top on
for sure, and if you're removing it from the frame I'd leave the doors on 2,
the front clip on the other hand can be removed without any issues.

If the top is left on and is bolted down correctly, removing the doors won't bother anything. Everything should stay lined up okay.

That guy's just being cautious.

how do the doors keep things lined up? What about the blazers w/ no doors and no top mobbing around?

That's what the torsion boxes are there for.

Even if the torsion boxes are in good shape, keeping everything lined up is important if removing or replacing body parts, especially if you remove the tub from the frame.

If you're thinking about restoring your truck frame-off, leave everything on....brace and cross brace areas like the door frames, top of A-pillar area(bottom of windshield), etc... by welding steel tubing across these areas.

With this done, you can remove everything that you will need to remove to get to damaged areas without having everything flex/move around.

Thanks. It was a "20 footer" when I got it, as in it looked good from 20 feet. The PO did a lot of work to just hide the bad.

Well, I went the complete opposite route. I tore everything apart. Every seam was split, every piece taken apart. I'm in the Gulf right now, so its still in pieces, but at last update, the driver side bedside was reassembled and reinstalled. Got to finish the passenger bedside, reskin the doors and finish the reassembly. So far, putting it back together has not been bad, just took some pushing and pulling to get it all to line back up again. Once I have the tub reassembled, I'll use the welded in rods to pull the tub back into square before tacking the bedsides in place. Really its up to you as to how much work you want to do. I know that the way I have done it is really labor intensive, but I'll be happy with the finished product. Want some real work, look at what GeeEmm has done. Good luck, Jeff.
