'67 C10 Antenna Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi,

I just picked up a '67 C10 that was not equipped with a factory radio. The antenna mounting hole on the top/right side of the fresh air cowl is not drilled out. I also don't know where to pass the antenna cable through body sheetmetal and into the passenger compartment. I pulled the glovebox and couldn't find any existing holes or rubber grommets on either the firewall, the air cowl or the door pillar.

Could someone take a measurement of their own antenna base and let me know where to drill the fresh air cowl? Any idea where the cable enters the passenger compartment?

JoeMamma, welcome from Maryland!. Do yourself a favor and sell that "factory" shaved cowl to someone looking for that look. They can bring decent money sometimes. You can easily find a cowl in a junkyard that already has the correct hole located in it. The hole is drilled below the cowl opening and the cable runs along the inside firewall above the heater box to the radio.

I spent alot of time and money to shave the external antenna from Screamin'. That shaved cowl would have been worth some bucks to me. Find yourself another cowl at the wrecker and post that one for sale on the board.

The truck had an interior mounted antenna with a small amplifier. The kind you string under the IP. The radio only got in 1 AM station and 1 FM station, and the reception on these two stations was bad. I bought another one and installed it. After a lot of work (factory air), it improved slightly. Your correct about poking an unnecessary hole in that air cowl. Can you recommend an interior mounted antenna that doesn't need to be strung under the IP? Maybe something with a small mast that can be mounted vertically behind one of the seats?

I've got a short rubber(or something similar) antenna between the headliner and roof on my streetrod. It works great. You might try that under the dash. Frank

I fit a "rubber ducky" AM/FM antenna onto the passenger side rear view mirror of my '67 Sub. Worked great. I snaked the cable under the ventwindow rubber grommet.

dakota digital makes an under the dash electronic antenna.i'm looking at putting one in my '67.
