but why would you want to add more weight to the front of an already nose heavy truck?

You can get the bushings from your local auto parts. I think they will have the clamps too. Brackets (or stands) are a GM item, but you don't really need them. You can use the ones from ECE for a lower profile, or bolt the clamps directly to the frame.....

Here is a very informative thread that TX Firefighter posted in the FAQ forum....Look inside

Dude! Your talkin' about 10#'s max it aint gonna make that big of a differance and the handling improvements for high speed run's and cornering far out weigh the extra weight!

BTW My ' 85 Stepper had a factory sway bar cuz i ordered it! As well as the '87stepper

Does anyone know if the frame brackets from Early Classic will also fit 73-87 trucks? The EC catalog lists those brackets for 63-72. Are the frame holes the same??

obviously you've never actually lifted the swaybar, its probably closer to 30-40#. also, have you read the specs on Mark's truck? i dont think he'll be doing much high speed cornering. if he is planning on it, he's a little crazier than he seems.

Actually i have lifted the one on the '87 stepper when i had it chromed even (more weight) and your probably right about the weight being at 30/40 #'s but like i said it still aint gonna make that much differance.

And yes i know Marks truck spec's and your right again....his is set up for 1/4 mile blast.

But i was refering to high speed cornering in my truck and it makes a big differance.

I have also had the '87 at 135 MPH on more than 2 occations and the front end does tend to float a bit heres a pic @ approx.122 MPH just befor i shot this the needle was at the 15 but it was way to shakey to take one hand off the wheel and take the pic!

ECE is Early Classic Enterprises. Their web link is "earlyclassic.com".
Their catalog lists the brackets for 63-72 Chevy Trucks. I'm not clear if the frame bolt holes on the 63-72 and 73-87 trucks are the same. If you purchase the brackets from ECE for your 87, please let me know if they fit. I'd like to purchase a set of the shorter frame brackets too.

The ECE brackets are not shown for 73-87 but they will fit. Yes you could make your own, or bolt direct to the frame like I suggested. The ECE brackets are cheap enough that you may as well buy them unless you have nothing better to do than build your own. I'm sure it wouldn't take but 2-3 tries to get it right....

I tried this and it wont work on a lowered truck anayways!

Due to the curve in the bar where it bolts to the a frame it changes the angle of this curve and cannot be bolted down.

I suppose you could heat the bar and bend it to the correct angle to allow it to be bolted to the a frame and the truck frame without the brackets.

at which point you would have just eliminated the point of bolting on the extra weight. we dont heat springs because it causes them to become weak, a swaybar is nothing more than a torsion spring.

I'm not sure how it's done, but I know it can be. Scoti has done 2-3 trucks that way. I'll have to ask him how it's done.

Personally I used the ECE brackets for my 77....

I just threw away a nice sway bar that I had blasted and powder coated black for my 83. Also had nice brackets for it to. Tried to sell it a few times and maybe even give it away. Gone now!!
