68 Chevy Seat Belts
Hi all,
Am brand new here. First off you all have mighty fine looking trucks. I read through about 18 pages of posts and the amount of knowledge here is awesome. Given that, I am reasonably sure someone here can help me out. Currently working to restore a 1968 Chevy 2wd pickup. When finished we plan to have it as close to original as possible. Now this truck did not come with any factory seat belts or shoulder belts. We plan on using the original bench seat. What is the best way of installing seat belts and shoulder belts and still keep the original bench seat? TIA 6wheeler |

Welcome to the board. Your truck should have the holes already there for the seatbelts and shoulder belts. Most of the vendors sell replacement pieces. I would imagine yours originally had lap belts, (required by law), but someone over it's life moved them. Shoulder belts were an option back then. They are a bit more awkward to use than today's shoulder belts.
Again welcome to the board. WE would love to see pictures of your project truck.

All the holes should be there. LMC Truck and chevyduty.com both sell the lap belts and shoulder belts to fit your truck. I know that you can get lap belts for 20 bucks or so, when a generic belt from a parts store will cost you more than that.

Thank you!
Thanks everyone for the info. I'll get some photos of the truck and post them as soon as I can. She sure ain't much to look at. She was sitting down in the woods in Alabama, the bed was loaded with garbage, no tires, and a couple of bullet holes in her. We drug her up outta the woods with a bulldozer and emptied out the bed. The fellow that sold her to us felt sorry for us and gave us four tires and rims. Sure made getting her on the trailer easier. Once all the junk was cleaned up, new fluids, points, and battery put in her, she fired right up. Could have knocked me over with a feather. Only two compromises on the totally original deal have been made so far. Electronic distributor and a sliding rear window. (That 2/60 air conditioning works much better that way. ) Not bad for $250.00.
Working on my daily truck now. It don't fit here but it's a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. Currently installing a 4/6 drop kit on it. My wife tells me I'm gonna have to turn my hat around and listen to boom-boom music when finished. |
