What differentials were used in a '72 C20? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 72 C20 that was converted to 4wd. I believe it has a Dana 44 HD installed up front (8 lug) and a GM 14 bolt Full Floater in the rear with leaf springs. Was the 14 bolt FF used in a 72 C20? My buddy told me it had a Dana 60, but when my wheel cylinders showed up I noticed they were incorrect. So I did some research and found that it wasn't a Dana 60. That's what I get for not checking myself! Basically I'm trying to find brake parts for this differential, but everything I've found for the C20 does not fit this diff.

I'll bet you have a Eaton, smooth round cover? The little pic is a 14bolt FF from a mid 70's & up. The middle pic is a Dana 60, the larger is a Eaton FF.

If your differential is round like the picture,it`s an Eaton(Corprate)HO52.Was your truck converted using a`72 K/20 frame and drivetrain?Do the bleeders come through the backing plate straight or at an angle?The C/20s were straight and the K/20s angled to the rear.Backing plates are interchangable,though.Hope this helps.

I have a dana60 from a 71 C20 in my garage with a drum removed. If you can take the drum off w/o removing the hub then it's probably a dana 60 from our era. I say that because there a re several versions of the dana60 out there and some the hub does have to be removed to take the drums off.

It's a 14 bolt FF. I already figured that out. The bleeders come out straight and not at an angle. What I was trying to work out is what to get the brakes from. It looks stock on the truck - I mean everything lines up and it fits just right. The truck to my knowledge is using the original C20 2WD frame.

The 1973+ 1 ton trucks have the same spring perch spacing as our era 3/4 tons, so I'm guessing that is where your 14 bolt is from.

Take the shoes and cylinder to the parts store. Mom & pop style or Napa, if you can. They should be able to match them from sizes.

Go to Capital Clutch and Brake. Look for the oldest guy at the counter. Forget his name... He will get em and tell ya what model to use in the future. Mind your manners with him.

I say that because there a re several versions of the dana60 out there and some the hub does have to be removed to take the drums off. __________________ 1970 K25, 8' stepside bed 350/465/205 44 up front, 60 in the rear 4.10s rolling on 33" Dunlop MTs 1986 K5, 350/465/208 Dana 60/14 bolt from a cucv 36" Super Swampers TSL/SX 1983 K20 w/ CUCV axles, 350/700R4/208 sitting on 37" Goodyears 1986 M1031 6.2 diesel, TH400/NP205 locker in the rear and a LS in the front, all stock for now..... 1986 K30, 350/400/205 dana 60 and 14 bolt. I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm
