67-72 3/4 ton with good gas mileage

Whats it going to take to get 20 miles to a gallon with a 402?

Stick the 402 in the box and put in a straight six.

A flat bed trailer, a tow bar, or a steep long hill, as long as the engine is not running.....

I can do it, if you double the size of a gallon.

I would highly doubt that the th400 would be what you are looking for but a 700r4 might be. This has kinda got me thinking, what is the best mileage anyone has got with a BBC? I just dont think of gas mileage as being a goal with a big block.

My C-20 396 with a Holley two barrel gets about 16 on the highway if I baby it. Around town or towing I'm just under 14--again, driving like a bluehair. I doubt I could do much to make it lower.

I just sit in the truck a lot now and pretend I'm driving real fast...

I would like 20 and I imagine a lot of people would like to get 20 with a SBC let alone a BBC, what do you mean by an 80?

Even the brand spakin new chevy truck regular cab 2wd with the 4.3L fuel injected V-6 and a 5speed tranny is listed at 21mpg. 20 mpg out of a big block???? Fuel injection, fiberglass body, 6 speed, aluminum rims, skinny driver, empty bed.... and you shut it off and roll it down a hill for 5 of the 20 miles
I believe txfirefighter has said before that he has a 67-72(dont remember the year) with a straight six and 5speed (again, cant remember for sure) but I think he said he could get 21mpg with it??? I apologize if this is wrong, but my memory sucks.

A 350 with a 2bbl carb, 4 speed granny, spicer aux. trans, 4:10 rear, 33" tires.

When me and my dad drove the truck 80 miles to Seguin, Texas we got about 10.5MPG. Right now my Dad's been driving it back and forth to work 70 miles a day(because the 700r4 in his 85 Burb took a crap, that's a whole nother story), and it's been getting almost 13MPG! That's cool with me, but I want my truck back! The truck has a 350/400/4:10's/33" tires, but I've worn the hell out of the 33s, gonna have to put the 31's back on.
