my 67 is on the road again!
I am proud to announce that my blue beauty is on the highway once more.
The power steering has been installed (as much of a pain that was! LOL)! AND BOY OH BOY! No more muscle aches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will take some pictures tomorrow when its daylight out so you can see the changes we made. We put in new pulleys, a gear box and power steering pump out of an 83 suburban, and ran Max life power steering fluid through the lines. I took her for a spin around the apartment complex and swung into a parking spot without my muscles screaming at me! Then, I took her for a spin onto Fort Hood because I had to be somewhere. She ran great, didnt wobble, and surprisingly I didn't look like a drunk on the highway getting used to the new powersteering advantage lol. I'm so pleased! Next on my list..........guages-------i have them........just need to take the time to install them lol.

How are you doing it? My truck didn't have power steering to begin with so i had to do alot of modifications. In the pics I will post tomorrow you will see what I had to do. I had to buy a custom mounting bracket for the pump since my engine doesn't have the holes for the standard mount. Then, we ran into a problem with the pulleys not lining up, so we had to go get new pulleys (they have three grooves instead of one), and THEN the fan was making contact with the pulleys, so we had to buy an adapter for the fan lol. All in all, it was well worth it lol.

here's some pics of what we did. now that i've been able to get the camara in there and zoom in on the belts, i can see now that we may have a problem. if you will notice one of the belts looks like its not straight----like one of the pulleys is off a little. so that will be something we will have to adjust but other than that, she runs like a beauty and no more muscle failure

it almost looks like you have the wrong pulleys-crank and water pump pulley-its hard to tell in the pictures if so you will run into problems in the future

also so your fan should not be that far into the shroud,it should be half in and half out,it wont pull air and will cause your engine to overheat

we were told all the pulleys and stuff were interchangeable from 67 to 87. perhaps they told us wrong?
we never changed out the waterpump pulley. is it possible that with the modifications that we have to change that out as well? thanks for the tips. we're going to adjust it tomorrow and see what we can do to remedy the issues.

is that a FLEX fan I see? If it is get that thing out of there pronto. The blades can come off while the motor is running and hurt or even kill you. Randy

The belts look like they are out of alignment or it might be the picture. I would go with an electric fan too.

seriously, just make sure all of the rivets are tight on the blades, and make sure the blades dont have cracks or bends in them, and you'll be just fine. if they were that dangerous, they wouldnt still be on the market. |
