Maiden Voyage!

WOOO HOOO! Thanks to a new carb and a buddy that knows what the heck he is doing under the hood, I got to take the 68 for a short cruise on the block this evening. After sitting in a field for 12 years, and in my driveway since March, it was AWESOME to take it for a spin! Who needs power steering (or rear brakes)!

I stalled the three on the tree several times, but I was laughing the whole time. Of course, I couldn't stay away after only a few hundred feet, so I drove it down to my friend's house to drop off a vaccum cleaner. My first truck trip, 2 awesome blocks!

I have lots to do still before we pass inspection, but it is nice to make some real progress. Thanks to all of you guys for the awesome help. This site rocks.

Yahoo won't host pics...you tried attaching them directly to the board instead of using a host?

Oh, it's got rust. It has more rust than options. But it'll be a while untill I really deal with the bodywork. I want to run a few trips to the lumberyard, first.

This truck has the original 307 8 cylinder still in it. 45K miles on the truck, so hopefully the engine still has some life in it.

Well, they may not like it, but I've lived here longer than any of my neighbors and this IS Texas, so trucks better be allowed.

At least my truck better be.

I drove my Fred Sanford special and parked it in front of my brother's house because he's president of his homeowners association, just to see if I'd get a reaction out of him or any of his neighbors. He gets complaints from residents on people who park their vehicles on the street becuase the complainers have to walk around the vehicles when they take their walk. This is why I could never live in a neighborhood like that, you can guess what I'd have to say!

Back in March, a dude that lives several block away asked me if I was leaving it sitting in my driveway, or if I would be putting it in the garage. I told him I could park it in front of his house if that would help.

He never complained about it being in my driveway again.
