Soundproofing between gas tank and cab question ?

A quick look tells me there is about 1/2 in. gap between gas tank and rear of cab(please correct me if I am wrong). I know there is the expensive stuff, but could I use some generic 1 inch foam rubber and compress behind the tank, tank removed of course. Would that help reduce sound level any ? or would the expensive stuff be better ? And does it really matter if you put anything between the tank and rear of cab at all ? You have the tank and the cover and the seat there already to suck up some sound ? Any thoughts ?

I had a cardboard cover of sorts that I glued some cheap black carpet from auto zone too on the front and on the back I glued some old carpet padding I had. I used spray on glue and it barely fit between the seat and tank but it is a lot quieter.

You can get new carpet padding at home depot and use that as sound barrier and it works too!

OK, I guess what I'm really asking is does it do any good to put something between the gas tank and the back of the cab, given you have the other stuff in front of it?
Also if you put something behind the tank, does additional stuff like the tank cover padding give any additional improvement ?? Thanks

The back of the cab wall is like a big tin noisy partition so anything that you glue onto it will help. We cover the wall and the the gas tank with a good sound absorbing material and it definitely makes a difference.
