Carrier Bearing..........Anyone have part #?
It didn't take the Cummins long to eat the Carrier Bearing in my '71 C-20...........Anyhow, Does anyone have the Advance Auto part # for the one with the two mounting holes that run front to back...........? I was looking around on their web site and they had 7 bearings listed for it and I haven't a clue which one it should take.
I assume you have to purchase the the bearing and the housing? I'd really like to know what I need before I stop by there tomorrow.........If it is made before 1990 the kids seem to have problems finding the right part on the first try P.S, I thought they only put two types of Carrier bearings in them? One like I need, and ones with the mounting holes running width wise across the truck? How do they get 7 different bearings with the same ID and manufacturer?

I just bought one for my 67 gm. But it turned out I didn't need it so I don't have the #. It did come as a complete assembly. It was less than $30 I think.I bought it at a Canadian store, cause that's where I live eh. But it was an American company that made it. The computer at the store seems to think anything pre-68 si a Volkswagon, so I know what you mean.

There are like 3 sizes of bearings inside the 2 different housings. All with different size shafts. I'd be trying to swap over to the other type of bearing if I was you. I've broken several new inline style with my 350. The end plate that bolts to the truck is only spotwelded to the rest of the carrier. Snaps right off. So when I install new ones now I always weld around the outside. Learned that when the wife broke a brand new one towing a horse trailer.

Napa has them, but be careful, they matched up my K-20 with their book and it came in a different inside diameter . They ordered a different number and it was the right one.

I got mine for my C20 from LMC. Their descriptions are acurate.

Take your old bearing and support with you and checkit against a 646035 Pioneer brand. The cushion and support without bearing is a 646028.
I believe the last 4 digits are universal amongst some other manufacturers. Hope this helps. Jim |

the difference in part #'s has alot to do with the extras you get with the hanger bearing . ie slinger one side or both or none at all. Also if the rubber is soild or not there is many that fit but most places carry one type and that will work.

Well..., since you're running a Cummins, you probably need to upgrade to a poly carrier bearing from Inland Empire Driveline. Hopefully, one of those will end your bearing woes.
