engine install
I have a 63 chevy lwb. I am new to the world of tucks and i have some basic knowledge of them. So far i sandblasted/painted the frame and control arms, installed carpet and seats put the Classic Preformance "grand Slam" CPP on it and i am begining to install the american auto wire wiring harness. I need to put a new engine into it, so i want to get a crate 350,350 crate , and i was wondering if this would be something that i could tackle. I was hoping that with the wiring harness and the crate engine that it woul dbe easy enough for me to handle. If you think that it would be more complicated than i think, are there any suggestions as to who could install it? Thanks.

Welcome to the board, Central Cali.
Doing an engine swap is pretty easy to do, just have about 1 to 2 other helpers, and should be real easy to swap in. Is there a engine in the engine bay? Is it a inline 6 or a V8? if it's a inline 6, you'll probably need different engine mounts(towers). If the wires are still attatched to the engine, mark on a piece of tape on each wire where they hook up/mount to, or take pics with a camera for reference. If the wiring is all bad, or not hooked up, I would pick up the shop manual for the wiring diagrams. David

I went with that same crate motor for my other project, 1953 GMC panel truck, and it was sweet. Just a word of warning with it though, it didn't come in running condition. The carb wasn't tuned very well and it was only semi timed. It ran but just barely and like crapola! When we got it all setup right it ran great. Just don't do what we did and assume that is was setup right at the factory! PanelRodder PS: I went with a Painless wireharness and it was a terminate and hookup thing with this engine. Didn't need anything special for the install. I hear that the other harness kits out there are the same! Last edited by Panelrodder; 06-22-2005 at 05:27 PM. |

If the mounts are side lug and not on the front of the motor you should be fine. Be sure and buy new pads (or the mounts) Don't re-use the old rubber pad mounts. My 2 cents worth... rico_bob
