Rear leaf springs

I looked at a 1970 C10 that has rear leaf springs.
-What is the history for the rear leaf springs?
-Why would one truck have leaf springs and the other has rear coil springs?
-What is the best way to lower a 1970 C10 with rear leaf springs?

I can't answer many questions, but to lower it, flip the rear axle from under the springs to on top of them like a car or S10 would have. That will lower it 5 inches or so. I've always assumed that the leafs were ordered to haul more. Coil trucks don't seem to take a load as well. There were a lot more coil trucks if I recall correctly.

Thank you. That confirms what I was thinking. I have seen flip kits but I have never seen it done. Would I have to have the spring perches relocated to the top of the axle housing? 5" would mean C-notch the frame. Would this mean I need to use 2.5" drop spindles and 1" front lowering springs to get the truck level?

You could also remove leaves, or get longer shackles. It seems the chevies were coil and gmc leaves with the other being an option for both. I have a dan60 rear w/ leaves out of a 71 C20. Of course the 4wds all had rear leaves.

1986 K5, 350/465/208 Dana 60/14 bolt from a cucv 36" Super Swampers TSL/SX
1983 K20 w/ CUCV axles, 350/700R4/208 sitting on 37" Goodyears
1986 M1031 6.2 diesel, TH400/NP205 locker in the rear and a LS in the front, all stock for now.....
1986 K30, 350/400/205 dana 60 and 14 bolt. I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone.
1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed.

1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm
