69 GMC SWB stepside 305 V6 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey there everyone,

glad to be part of this great cite. I am looking and have been looking since 1993 for someone other than myself that knows abot a 305 V6 engine. my wonderful trk was ordered with this engine but I cannot find anyone else who knows what this dinosaur is. until they see this massive engine they always contradict me and say it is a 305 V8. I found this engine listed in a old chilton manuel but it is very hard to find parts for it. The engine ran fine, but we decided to pull it and order a new one. well when we got it from npd we opened the box to find a damn v8. well we beat them up and finally a month later we get our pride and joy a new 305 V6. thank the lord someone foud it. What a great engine and very diffrent than anyone elses trk. I will put pics on as soon as I get them. what I'm looking for here is someone else who can find parts like a new intake. thanks everyone...

Welcome from Central VA. You'll find a few people here who love those old V6's. Apparently they are a real workhorse engine, but unfortunately they fall in the love em or hate em category, not much middle ground. I'd love to ride in one one day.

I must need my head checked for vacuum leaks because I'm on my second GMC V-6
pick-up. Owned a '65 for eight years during the late '70's/early '80's. Got real stupid
and traded it in on a Ford. Well, I've come to my senses and now the Ford is gone &
I just bought '67 GMC w/305 V-6 & 4-spd. It sure feels good to be back in a real
TRUCK again. Basically, I think GMC V-6's were some of the coolest TRUCKS ever
built. It's getting a little hard to find parts for them, but there's still parts available
thru better parts houses like NAPA. Also, there's always wrecking yards. Welcome!!

Those over square V6's were awesome engines for torque and definately a rare find and a keeper. Don't get rid of the old one keep it around.

This whole V6 thing is totally bizarre to me. I live in Canada and I have a '65 GMC. All of the Canadian GMC's were just GMC bodies with Chevy running gear. My '65 is called a "910" and has coil springs all around. When I was looking to buy my truck I was looking all over the internet for them and I would occasionaly run across a GMC advertised as a 305 V6. I thought "that moron either has a straight six or a 305 V8 from an 80's GM" Turns out I'M the moron. That 6066gmcguy website mentioned earlier in this thread really does have a ton of excellent info for anybody curious about GMC's from that era.
