HELP!! 1980 K10 Electrical Gremlin's
So, Got the cell phone plugged in to the cigarette lighter. "I'm Switched over to the passenger side tank. And the CD's playing fine. Next second and, stereo's kaput, charger for phone is dead and I've run outa gas on the driver side tank. Replaced the 25amp fuse at the fuse box and lasted about three weeks. Replaced it again, and, with all the accoutrements off, POOF! Melted the fused, didn't just blow it. Took a pair of vise grips to remove it. Blew another just as a test.
Anyone know where this short might be?? I can't find anything. HELP!!

I'm no expert or anything, but maybe you should lay off the cell and stereo and see if you have any more problems... Then at least you can knock those two suspicous things off the list.

My 80 kept blowing the exact same fuse all the time too. There are actually a lot of systems on that fuse. The horn is on it, the interior lights are on it, the cargo lamp is on it, the radio is on it, the buzzer is on it, the seatbelt light, and the cig lighter as well. If you put too big of a stereo on it, you'll blow that fuse constantly. For me, however, the problem was in a wire that was pinched by the parking brake pedal. It didn't get cut in half, but some wire was exposed. It would blow the fuse if you hit a bump or something in just the right way to move the wire and ground it out. The wire that was damaged in my truck was the courtsey light wire that runs from the fuse box connector, down around behind the fuse box, then down to the floor board, and up to the dome light / cargo lamp.
Another thing to consider is maybe installing a circuit breaker instead. Just put in a 30 amp circuit breaker similar to the one that your power windows / locks (if so equipped) use. Then if it blows becuase you are putting too much load on, it will reset itself once it cools down.
