convert duallie dana 60 to SRW setup?
I have heard to avoid duallie truck dana 60s. Then I have heard that you can convert a duallie axle to SRW status by swapping out some outer axle components. Any insight, experience? SRW dana 60s are getting tough to find at any price. I just sold one, and now I wish I didn't. Thanks very much guys!

I don't know abot making a dual to a single wheel setup, But the dually rearend in the truck is a DANA 70HD if it has 10 bolts holding on the rear cover.
If it has 14 bolts it is a GM corporate rear end. The Dana 70HD is much stronger than the corp. 14 bolt. When you go looking for parts you need to know this information. On the web on the drivers side front of the dually rearend it should have a 70HD if it is a 1 ton dually. Just my .02 CCDually Last edited by GMC1tondually4dr; 06-24-2005 at 07:05 PM. |

Front Dana 60?
Crosby,
The only thing difference between a single wheel and dually front Dana 60 is the hub assembly. The easiest way to convert to single wheel is to just swap out the hubs. They both share the same rotor, stub axle, wheel bearings, seal and locking hub. You could find a used set of hubs or purchase a new set them direct from GM. Definitely not the way I would do it but, I have seen some people machine of the wheel flange on a dually hub and weld on a new flange to the rotor mounting boss. GM PART # 15635530 CATEGORY: All PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $0.00 DESCRIPTION: HUB & DISC GM LIST: $229.45 OUR PRICE: $114.72 Pricing information listed on http://www.gmpartsdirect.com Hope this helps, Joe Oh yeah, the Dana 70 is only marginally stronger than a GM14 bolt full floater.

If it's a rear setup you are talking about,
Local parts paper here has... "Truck rear end, complete, 4.10 ratio, for singe wheel, 1 ton, $65. (Eynon, PA)" If you want I can PM you the phone number. In Northeast, PA.

already knew that the front was convertable via hubs, but why could yo not run the dually rear dana 70 with 1 wheel on each side?

you *could* but it would be too wide. another option is to run a full width DRW Dana 60 in the front, and a full width dually Dana 70 out back with Hummer beadlocks.

Now that sounds like a good idea. Got any idea of the hub to hub width differences between the single and duals? Had an offer to buy a running 82 1ton dually 4x4 , 350 sm465/205 with a utility bed last year and passed because didn't want to have to conert axles, but $1200, running! Been thinking about it lately and pretty sure it is still in the guys yard, hmmm.

Thanks guys, I did mean the fronts, and hear about the hub switching before. That's what I needed, thanks very much! I have learned the dana 60s are missing a u bolt on one side because the case is so big, and they have studs sticking out to bolt to the leaf spring (plate). And, the number 60 is usually cast into the housing. Thanks again.

It can be done.... for a price. Look into Pirate 4x4.com and you'll see it all over their boards. Buying a SWR hub set is going to set you back about 400 bones on E-bay. I was told that Gm no longer makes or stocks those SWR Front Dana 60 hubs, at least up here in the NW, guess that parts guy didn't know his arse from a hole in the ground. Anyway....here is the link from Pirate4x4, http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...light=d60+swap |
