Army Truck Pics
I know a lot of our trucks began there lives as military vehicles. I know my 71 was taken out of a field and it was originally Army issue green, with a 6cyl and 3 speed tranny.
I was wondering if any of you may have some pictures of our trucks, especially a C10 stepside, in the army issue green. I am making her into a "trailer queen", but would love to have a shot of what she looked like off the assembly line.

I don't have any pics for you but I have a '69 C-10 short stepside that originally had a 6 cylinder 3 on the tree and I have a feeling it may have been an army truck. I have no way of telling though. The original paint was a dark drab olive green (that I can't find on normal paint chip charts) And there is no paint code on the option decal.
The truck had very few options and the option label has very strange codes with no descriptions on most of them. ( I can send a pic if your interested) Does your glove box door have anything like a metal tag attached to the outside of the door? Mine has 4 small holes to the left side. I have no idea as to what was there. BTW, thats the truck to the left <----- Not much original anymore and was painted about 5 different colors before I got it. (now Grabber blue)

I just sold a '72 swb step that was originally an army issue, but I don't have a pic right now. It was a 6 cyl. 3spd, 4:11 posi. I just repainted it army green and sold it to my brother in law. He is an army vet., and loves it. I can get you a pic if you want.

My glove box decal was removed by the guy who got the truck out of the field and painted it red. I didn't know the history until I took it apart and found the green under the dash and on the firewall behind the heater core shroud. I then went back to the guy and asked and that is how I found out it was in the Army. I'm the third owner I guess. The government, the guy I bought it off of, and me!
I would love to see what options your glove box shows. I know mine didn't come with any options, but I have since added factory air, tilt, small block, auto. I sent an e-mial to GM's military division yesterday asking if they could point me in the direction of some pictures. If I get anything back I will let you know.

Here is my label. If anyone knows what these crazy codes mean please let me know. Anyone see a paint code in there???
This truck has been through so many changes through the years. It was painted ugly green originally, then another shade of greeen, then hugger orange, then red, then blue and finally, what you see to the left is my doing. (1971 Ford Grabber blue) It's mostly customized now with a different engine/trans, seat, floor shifter, bed floor, etc. I have tried to do a title search to find out the original owner but in Pa, it only goes back 10 years. I really think it may have been an army truck. I'd love to see a pic of this army green color too. I just repainted mine and there's only what's left under the dash now. It's one U-G-L-Y green!

My pics didn't come out (too dark), and freephoto is still down too. What other choices are there for hosting pics? I'll try again to get pics of the truck.

You can upload the pic right to the server on this site as long as it's not too big. When you click the reply button, look at the bottom of the page where it says "attach file".
Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Just make sure you have it sized small enough and you can attach from your C: drive.

I want a DUKW! (pronounced duck). Those are based off of a GMC 6x6 chassis. Front and rear pto winches, single wheel all the way around with air pressure adjustment for all tires from the cab and it's amphibious!

Heres one i came across a few months ago. Go to www.rockymountainclassics.com and click on photo list. Then scroll all the way to the bottom and click on "recently sold". There is a '69 1/2 ton SWB stepside that was sold for $1995. This is the only picture they have now, but before it was sold they had about 6-7 photos of it from different angles. This truck was clean, as for as i could i could tell from the pics. It was still army green and had "Property of U.S. Army " stenciled on both doors. Kind of wish i had bought it. I saved the image to a file and it is a little easier to see that way, but not much.
Hey 1971 Stepside, may you can e-mail them to send you the pics they had of it. Its worth a shot. I spoke with them and they seem like real nice guys. Later!!

I guess mine was that color. It's hard to tell.
Did these army trucks have anything special about them? Looking for something to distinquish an army truck from a non army truck. Maybe mine was just a "civilian" truck. LOL Someone with bad taste in paint colors might have ordered it. (and a cheapskate too)

I got a white 68 cab from a junkyard close to Ontario CA. Got it home and started sanding it. I found some letters stenciled on the doors. US DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY. I said uhoh, I hope they didnt use this thing for hauling nuclear waste.

Back in '92 I bought a '69 C-10 stepside from the USPS. It was theirs since new (apparently used as a "rescue" truck for broken down LLVs). The truck was original white with blue interior and a big Krylon white hand paint job on each door to cover where the USPS sticker once went.
Here's undoubtedly the WORST photo ever taken... and this was somewhat later in the project-- you can see the mismatched wheels as I've already put a disc brake frontend on it, and you can see the huge hole in the rear fender as I'm about to zip up the side marker area to look like a '67. Kenneth

My original paint doesn't look like that. That looks flat. Looks like someone did that after it left the factory. My color is different too.
What would have been riveted or screwed onto my glove box door originally? It has 4 small holes and is driving me nuts! It looks factory to me.

Military colors would have been Flat,no gloss.Gloss shines and is easier to see so they used flat even on vehicles which were not camo. They could then do camo spray only over areas of the truck to break up the outline.

Bobs you are correct. My original DOD issue green is not that flat either. Mine is olive drab, but it is not flat in the way that the one pictured is.
I will try to get a picture of the "green spot" and post it tomorrow.

That is not the original color of the truck. The original color was a little more green. I couldn't tell if it was shiny or flat, so I just painted it like we liked it. I don't remember any emblems or anything being on the glove box door though.
