GM laserdisc progress

Ok gang, just wanted to let you know where I am at with this.

As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, I finally found and purchased a laserdisc player that would play these GM laserdisc we purchased. Well, I finally got it hooked up and working...and played all 5 disc successfully...woo hoo!! I did have problems with one disc towards the end, but I am going to try and clean the disc and see if that solves the problem.

Let me say this, these disc are really freakin cool! There is some real neat footage in them, great information, and even some Ford bashing skits in one of them! There is even a forward/reverse/forward/reverse burnout being done to prove how strong the trucks are!

Anyhow, my next quest will be getting these on DVD and getting them mailed to those of you who went in on this. Thanks for your patience and sorry it has taken so long (this was harder than I thought it would be)...but trust me, it will be worth it!!!

That is a tricky question, and I will explain briefly.

There was about 20 people who each paid $15 or more which went towards our original GM archival research, which unfortunately, didn't pan out the way we all hoped it would (thanks to GM). As an alternative, I located some original 81, 84, and 85 Chevrolet truck laserdisc, laserdisc that were sent out to all the Chevrolet dealers in the US and used to train the salesmen about the new trucks for that year. Upon further review, it turns out only certain laserdisc will play these particular GM laserdisc, so I had to locate and purchase one of those as well...and this is where we are at now.

All the money that was put in by everyone so far was spent on one unseccussful hour of research with GM, these three laserdisc, and a portion of the laserdisc player...the rest was (and remaining $$ will be) spent by me since the disc and player are in my possesion.

I personally don't want to make any money off these, wouldn't know how much to charge anyhow, and don't want to offend those who have already paid if I sold them to others for less.

Perhaps, I can "donate" other interested parties a copy of the DVD if they in turn "donate" $15 or so to this wonderful board. At least this way, it would be fair for those who already paid???

I am open to suggestions or comments.

Me too, however, it wasn't the player I was really wanting. The player these disc are meant to be played on is sought after by collectors and gamers that were/are really into Dragons Lair. I did see one on Ebay, but it went waaay too high for my blood. I also called about 30 Chevrolet dealers here in Minnesota and talked with the managers at each one, asking if they possibly still had the player laying around. 95% of them had no clue but guaranteed me thay didn't have it anymore, and the rest remembered them but also remembered throwing or giving them away once laserdisc and the players for them became obsolete.

The player I got does play these disc just fine, but does not allow selective playing by chapters...it just plays them straight thru. So we lost out on that functionality, but we still get to see the important stuff anyhow.

Are you going to run into a copyright issues with copying these discs?
I think donations to the board is a great idea.

No clue, but I wouldn't think so. Wouldn't it be the same as burning copies of music CD's or DVD's for your own personal use? I am not selling them.

i really dont have a problem with sharing the info with anyone else, as long as they kick in a couple bucks for your trouble, and maybe a couple to the board. you're doing all the work Jeff, no reason you should be money down with a laser disc player that you're probably never gonna use again.

Thanks for all your hard work so far Jeff It's definately starting to pay off for all of us. I agree with Jeremy that it would be a great idea for those who want them and didn't participate before to chip into to cover your costs of bruning and shipping and then help out with the board costs as well.
