P.U. Bedside Panels For Burb?

Just wondering if anybody has used pickup bed sides to replace Burb quarters? I would rather do something like that than 3 or 4 seperate panels if it can be done. Thanks, Mike

Pickup bedsides have a different shape to them.The wheel opening is different,the rear of the quarter is different.

How About Blazer?

Or does anybody make a FULL repair panel yet? Or am I forced to do the 3 panel shuffle? I guess I will have to park them side by side to see what you mean Mike. I am open to suggestions. Thanks, Mike

I had to do a 2 pannel shuffle on a 72 Blazer that I had to fix several years ago and it was a huge PITA, and was really never "right" in my opinion. I really hope you have some luck finding used ones, or the multi piece units are better built now.

Ok, here's the deal. LWB bedsides will not work. If you want to replace the arch as one piece, you will need a SWB/Blazer bedside. If not, you will need the wheel arch patch(make sure you get the one with the deeper bead), the blazer lower front bedside patch and the burb/panel lower rear 1/4 patch. Plus, for the drivers side, you will need a piece bent on a brake with a 90 degree bend(for the pinchweld) and with a roll to match the curvature of the lower body. If you need inner braces or the piece under the tailgate, you are screwed(unless you have a donor burb that has that stuff in it that's in decent shape).

The LWB bedsides have a "rounded" leading edge(front side of lower wheel arch) and the bead isn't as defined as it is in the burb/panel/swb & blazer which all share the same wheel arch. Why they made them different I'lle never understand but that's the way it is.

While I'm at it, the rocker panels for the pass front door are different than the pickup rockers but with some creative cutting, bending & welding and a lot of patience, you can duplicate the factory rocker from a p/u pass rocker. The drivers rocker is the same as a p/u and the 3rd door rocker is available now. Rear floorpans, sparetire wells, rear wheel tubs, 3rd door inner rockers and the burb/panel windshield header are not available(and probably won't be for a while, if ever).

Yup, they make full replacement bedsides for a SWB p/u but they are $420+ ea... I picked a Goodmark one for the drivers side up at a swapmeet with heavy damage at the taillight area for $40.00. There was a NOS full passenger burb 1/4 panel in Hemmings for around $900 or $950. A board member bought it.

You still will have to use 2 or 3 or 4 pieces to do the entire lower 1/4 if you used a SWB bedside. You will need:
Wheel arch from SWB bedside
burb/panel lower rear patch
burb/panel rear taillight panel if needed
roll-n-brake patch for lower area infront of wheelwell.
A lot of bandaids, beer and patience!!!

Everybody still recovering from Ivan, but we are getting there. I've spent a lot of time trying to track stuff down for my 69 suburban, so I just happened to run across their site. I bought a set of steel rear fenders for my 48 truck from them. I hope those quarters are what you are looking for because I need them too. Let us know what you find out.

First I have to tell you that your quote is right on. Alot of GREAT stuff comes from that book. I did alot of hurricane relief in your area in my flying days with the AF. I remember Destin beach looking like a garbage dump with a garbage dump dumped on it. Man alive! I'll bet you STILL have to wear shoes there! My heart goes out to you all. I GOTTA Have 4-doors

OK Guys,
I can't possibly be the first one to think of this one. In all this quarter panel talk, I realized that I am going to fabricate a 4th door on the drivers side of this thing. I looked LONG & HARD at it today and realized that it would be alot of work, but nothing that a GM trained body man/Hot rodder couldn't handle. Possibly suicide hinges, or a modified truck skin with reversed frame on a Burb door. Has anybody done this? I also have no doubt that I could make truck bedsides work (with a little finessing) and some Burb tailight panels. (Not to mention the beer and band-aids suggested above.) Keep the suggestions coming guys, you got me excited about this project! I am WORKING on the picture thing.Take care, Mike

Sorry buddy.... Here's picture proof of it for you to look at...The red truck is JC's 72 Cheyenne, the other pic of a LWB arch is of the LWB bedside I used to fix the arch on my burb(which is wrong and how I found out, the hard way). The next pic is what the wheel arches on your Jimmy should look like, this pic is of the blazer tub that VTblazer has been working on and the last one is of Rob Harts burb(notice it has the same wheel arch as a blazer and a SWB p/u but it is different that the wheel arch of the LWB as pointed to by the red arrows... This isn't meant to cause any friction. I am just trying to save someone the grief I went through after finding it out...

Just wondering of course, if you were to section a long wheel base bed to a short wheel base bed you would have to section before the tire and behind the tire. Below the wheel arch should be a perfect fit if sectioned correctly. How does the upper body line fit in, if you section x amount feet it seems that the upper body line wont match; correct?

Yep, that's the piece... On the LWB pickups, it is rounded on the lower edge that faces towards the front. On the Blazers, Burbs & SWB pickups, it is "squared off" on the lower edge that faces the front... I attached some pics of the Goodmark panels to show better what I mean...

First one is a LWB front lower bedside patch Goodmark Part # :
4143-610-672L / R

Second is a Blazer front lower bedside patch Goodmark Part # :
4173-610-69L / R

The last is a SWB Bedside Goodmark Part # : 4143-607-681L / R

Somebody should make a sticky of this in the Burb section as it is asked quite frequently...

I've been looking long & hard at the possibilities of making a 4 door burb out of one of these beasts. What I have come up with is this...(I have all of the stuff to do it to mine )

You will need another pass side B pillar along with a set of 3rd door hinges, a pair of front doors(pickup is fine but burb would be better as you will need the window frame). First, remove the blank door doorpanel & glass, ect... Carefully remove the secion of metal behind the doorpanel as you will need this for your doorglass later on. Next you will be cutting the drivers side B pillar out and moving it back to be the drivers side C pillar(with some mods to the top of it of course). You will take the extra pass side B pillar and weld that into the drivers side. Some cutting & modifying will need to be done(striker pocket flipped to other side & hingepockets move to other side). Once you have this done, you can start on the 4th door. You should remove the skins from both doors and the window frames too. Cut both inner shells in half. You will need the "latch sides" of both doors shortened to the size of the 3rd door. Once welded together, you can weld in the hinge mounts to the front & remove the panel that would be behind the door panel & replace it with the piece you removed from the body in the first step. Once you are done welding it all in and installing any additional bracing(I would plate the welded areas from the inside and also plate the hinge area to be safe) You can reskin the door using the removed drivers side skin, shortening it in the front, leaving the correct handle location then shave the lock hole out. Now is when if you used Burb front door for donors for the 4th door, you could cut up the window frames to make the new frames and reinstall the glass... As far as a rocker panel goes, I was going to section a drivers side front rockerpanel to mirror a 3rd door rocker panel...

A lot of work but it's doable IMO...

4-door Fever

Joe,
You are just about dead on to my thoughts exactly. I have not taken any panels off to look inside, so I can't speculate TOO much, but it seems to me that the B-pillar could be modded without removal, and I'm also thinking that there has got to be SOME type of C-pillar already in place that could be modded as well. I am also thinking that the existing pseudo-frame would install on the top of a door since it already holds the top of a window. Other than the frames slant, a third door looks like it could be modded to be symetrical (swap hinges and latch sides) or a suicide set-up might be even easier
(not to mention unique AND cool) I am seriously considering this 4th door thing because it JUST SEEMS RIGHT. As far as the quarter stuff goes, I will have to study the pictures some more to see just what you guys are getting at. I think the 4th door would eliminate alot of concerns about which panels to use since I could use SWB panels on both sides then. Please stay in close touch with me on this 4th door project, we might be able to do a joint FAQ on it one day or something. I will be taking into consideration your info about the pillars the more I look into this. I can see now that I am going to need a DONOR Burb already! My previous question may not have been understandable so I will ask again. If you take a long wheel base bed and section it vertically on both sides of the tire for correct length. I do not see how the factory upper body line will match after section. I am refering to post 13.

I have owned these types of trucks since I was six, just kidding. But this verticle sectioning doesnt seem possible because the upper body line wont match. I am serious about this question I have a AZ. LWB truck with perfect bedsides and when I covert it to SWB it would be great to utilize the bedsides.
