Side Marker Light Filler Door - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Has anyone here done the side marker light filler door conversion that tennman has done? I am trying to get mine done so I can mount the bed back to the frame and not having much success in finding the correct pieces to use. If anyone has done this can they please post the exact year and other such info concerning the parts they used? My tank is mounted to the frame and the bed is nearly finished. Would prefer to have the filler door portion done when I mount the bed to the frame. Do you use a square door or round door? All lthe square doors I find have a differant type hinge then what is shown. The round doors have a solid wide metal hinge. Also the basket around the fuel cap does not seem to have enough material to screw fasten to the existing body side marker. What am I not seeing here? Always thought I was somewhat mechanically inclined and had a reasonable amount of ability for innovations.

As far as getting the fuel door to match the marker light, you should trim the door to match the marker light, then drill holes and bolt the light to it. You just buy one then start tryin to make it fit. When I want to make something fit my truck, thats what I usually do.

If you will look up tennman under members I'm sure he will give you any info he has.I know he has this conversion documented and posted somewhere on the web but I don't have the addy.Just E-mail him and ask.

My memory is not the greatest, but I think I remember tennman or someone using a door off of an '80's model S-10, along with a cut-to-fit backer piece on the side marker. I bet we can figure it out tomorrow when we all get together here in Winfield.

I believe the exact year was a 1990 S-10 Blazer. I know the door on my wifes 98 S-10 Blazer is the same, so I think that all rears in between will work. If you can't find them at a wrecking yard you should be able to buy the pieces direct from your local GM Dealer. what about putting it behind the tailight, it is much easier, IMO.
