Z'd frame, what to do with the tranny member?

Hey guys,

I am new to the forum, but I have been reading a lot of what you guys have posted in the past and I have learned a great deal from what I have read!

I have a 65 Chevy 1/2 ton with a 415 stroker and TH350 trans and I am getting ready to Z the frame 2 inches and I was curious what you guys did with your tranny cross member? Did you mod your stock X-member, did you build a new one? I am hoping to tuck my exhaust up above the tranny member as well. I have a good idea of what I need to do I am just hoping maybe some one may have some pix or advice before I dive in.

Raise it up 2 inches. Make one up to clear exhaust. thats what I did.

That is what I figured, I decided to start on my new truck instead of my already lowered 65 so it will be a month or so before I start, but I will keep everyone posted and take pix after I get started.

if you use a 67-72 style tranny x member you could remove the upper brackets and cut and weld the bottome or install a 2inch spacer

Hey Matt,

Ya I finally headed over this way, I figured now that I am getting into some more custom suspension work the gang around here might know a little bit more then the more "stock" guys at Chevy Talk.

I have not officially bought the truck yet, but I have gotten the "ok" to get it. I just need to get 1 of the parts truck I have laying out of here first. It is a couple hours a way from my house so it may be a few weeks before I actually pick it up. I am also buying a new miller 175 so I will need to get both of those before I go crazy with it all.
