just got the gas tank back from having the leaks repaired,they put some kind of acid in it to cleand it out and now it is rusting all over on the inside.what should i put in it now to clean the rust out of it?i thought when they boiled it out it would come back clean,but it is solid surface rust. snow man

I took my tank to a radiator shop. They cleaned and sealed it with some shiny stuff, now the inside of my tank is shiney.

i took this to the radiator shop but tthe acid they used took the coating off the inside of the tank and now it is all rusty.i would just like to know what to do now to get the surface rust out of it.i wish it would have come back all shiny but it didn't. how do i fix it is what i want to know.need help hear!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks snow man

I've never seen them come back rusty. It sounds like they flushed it, but forgot to seal it. Have you called them about it?

tom hand's advice is good - this is a tank sealer made by POR-15 and is good stuff. Be sure to remove the rust before sealing - their "Metal-Ready" does a good job. You can buy both direct from POR-15 at:

I would call the people that put the acid stuff in it. Your tank shouldn't rust up like that just by sitting. If they screwed up they would probably fix it for you.

Speaking of tanks!!! I am buying a new one tomorrow. Any helpful hints? How about some help about my fuel line going from the tank under the cab to the fuel pump??? Right now it is a rubber hose with a fuel filter attached and pretty darn close to my exhaust. Is that dumb or what??? So any help about metal fuel lines would be a GREAT help!

well i learned someting you guys got me pointed in the right direction.i have the por 15 metal ready on the shelf.i am going to call and se what they used for acid treatment,reflush an put metal ready in it until i can get the tank sealer.i think this should work till i can get the sealer in it. thanks to all of you for the help. snow man

yeah, snow man you may not need the sealer if you get the rust out first or at least you can wait until you get time/money - here's what POR-15 says:

They should, however, always be kept full of fuel, which prevents condensation and further rusting. If vehicles are not used frequently, fuel tanks should be treated with POR-15 FUEL PRESERVATIVE/STABILIZER, which will keep fuel fresh for two years or more and insure quick starts even after months of non-use.
