1969 Chevrolet C10 - My steering wheel is in excellent shape except for a stress crack in the round plastic portion that fits around the steering column. The crack is about 1/8" wide at the top just above the horn button. Can this be repaired in some manner. It is sort of a dark deep green in color. I have considered a filler or possibly using a C clamp and glueing back together, if an appropriate adhesive could be determined. Any experiences or comments welcomed.

I used Bondo over ten years ago to repair steering wheel cracks and repainted it, cracks are still invisible.

I've wondered about this myself. My wheel is in alot worse shape than yours,though. What about using a 5 min epoxy(to fill the crack), I guess you'd have to find a paint that matches your wheel (might not be easy?). I've not heard of any kits for example, that are designed for this type of repair, maybe someone else has?

I beleive the Eastwood Company sells a plastic steering wheel repair kit just for fixing cracks. I think they are at Eastwoodco.com.

use the fiberglass filler, it is green around here. Maybe add red dye to make it blue
or primer and paint it.

I have seen wheel repair kits on line before but can't remember who had them. One thing I don't think I'd try is the reclamping method as you would most likely run into seperation problems again. The filler idea sounds like the way to go. Doug

I have used Bondo with success but these were trucks I was selling. My buddy swears by PC-7 epoxy for filling cracks in plastic. Clean, sand, seal, prime and paint!. POR-15 sells a kit (pricey at $70). I have seen epoxy putty in craft stores reasonably priced for people who make sculptures also. If you still have manual steering, I wouldn't waste my time fixing it due to the stress of the manual gear box. My 2 cents!

whatabout epoxy then add your color to that while mixing seems to me that woud be the way to do it. you can get colors from craft stores then just play with the colors on something else till you get it right.

make it coor's and not that light stuff
