Engine Swap recommendations

I am tried of messing with this 250. I found a guy with a 74 305 and Turbo 350 for $150. It has Everything there except a carb. I also have a 95 350 TBI that needs rebuilt.

If you were in my shoes. Money is tight. (Damn wife had to have a new car and decides to quit her job and go back to school) Would you go for the 305 or have the 350 rebuilt. I don't want a hot rod. I want something to cruise around in.

I will not be using the tranny for the truck, it will be going into Molly.

$150 is a price thats hard to pass up for a good engine, plus it has a bonus tranny.

In my uncles 68 C20 we pulled a 305 HO out of a Monte Carlo that was wrecked in the Police auction and replaced the L6. It is basicly a stock 305 with an edelbrock 600 cfm carb, with headers. It runs real well for being a 305 plenty of power and actually it gets 14MPG on the highway going 75MPH with a 4 speed M. We have used it for camping with a 10' pop up camper pulling a small boat and it did just fine pulling up mountain passes. Sure it's not a powerfull as a 350 but it uses less gas than mine does 11.25 MPG is what I get 14MPG sure sounds nice.

I'd say go with the 305 if you are on a budget.

I had an 86 Z28 with a 305 in it. I thought it was a dog of a motor for a camaro, but it did run well, just kinda slow. Hard to pass up something that runs for $150. It should be a fairly simple swap and you can always save up to rebuild the 350 if you don't like the 305. So, being on a budget, I'd have to say 305...

I'd be on it like white on rice for that price.

Was that a Q-Jet car, TPI or TBI? Because I drove an 86 IROC w/ a TPI 305 and thought it ran pretty hard for being a 5.0 and an automatic
