I have a dumb question ... or at least one that highlights my ignorance... lol
I do not have leafsprings. What is my rear suspension called? |

When you look under the rear of the truck... several inches in front of the rear axle....do you see a wound up coil? Similar to that is on the front?
If so...NO....you have a coil spring rear with trailing arms. If there are no coils (and no AIRBAGS!), then you have a leaf spring rear end.

probaly a coil spring setup

The coils are obvious. I wonder why they call them trailing arms since they go forward from the axle. lol
Until I crawled under the thing I didn't realize that pu trucks (stock, of course) came with anything other than leafsprings. |

60 - 72 had coils. GM had to put the set up under a stock vehicle in order to use them on the race track (stock car maybe?). So they chose the trucks since they could package the real long arms with no hassles.
