Another oxymoron
Just wondering what m.p.g. are getting with a 454 in 2-wheel 1/2 ton truck???? Anyone ever mess with carb, timing, advance, overdrives, or bolt-ons to get better mileage with a 454??? I would love to get 13-14 m.p.g with a 3.40 gear

Drove from Mpls/St Paul area to 1 hour south of Sioux Falls, SD.
this past Sunday. 540 plus miles rt. "91 Suburban, 454 Auto, 3/4 ton two wheel drive. 130K miles. Don't know the rear gear. (Don't care either ![]() Got 14 mpg down and back, Cruise set on 65-70mph Last fall went to Chicago with an open trailer to pick up an '81 drag Camaro. Down, trailer-no car we got 12.8 mpg. On the way back with the Camaro we got 13.0. (We figured it must be more aerodynamic. Cruise at 75mph. Just my .02 ![]() Last edited by GMC1tondually4dr; 07-07-2005 at 11:09 PM. |
