How hard to assemble new repo tailgate??

I'm considering buying one of the new repo tailgates for my '85 Silverado to replace the original bent all to hell one since I haven't had any luck finding a good used one. My question is this: How hard is it to change the tailgate pull handle, rods and latches over from the old gate to the new one? It looks like it would be a pain to do. Any advice or answers appreciated.

its no big deal at all.....but....the repo tailgates are made of thinner metal...and will "bow" easy

there are a couple of board members on here that had GM tailgates a while back...i think someone even had a new one, nos

i'd ask bisquik......he has a crap load of stuff for our trucks...most is rust free...he's a good guy, give him a shout

Will do. I'd rather have a good used one anyway but I thought I'd ask.

I have seen several people over the years say that you can't stand on the repo tailgates without bending them in the middle.

Aren't the "Goodmark" repo parts supposed to be almost as good as the originals? I know that some of the foreign made parts aren't worth 2 cents.

Supposed to be, the more you spend the better the quality. The ones that say GMC or Chevrolet are alot thicker guage steel then the no name tailagates.
The No name one that got ruined when the idiot hit me is ok quality, thinner then OEM but not thin enough to bend when stood on. I tip the scale at 260 and my tailgate hasent bent although I did have to weld two new nuts on it where the straps hook up. Only other beef I have with it is the top half isnt as wide as OEM so the aluminum cap I got for it had a bit of a gap.

If you want after market then Goodmark is the one to go with. Have not heard anything bad about them as I have with LMC. That is really bad when you can not even close your tail gate. "Do not touch" should be put on those cheap tail gates and patch panels.
