Fan Spacer advise.... - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I converted from a long water pump to a short WP, and moved the ALT to the drivers side with the correct brackets. I am using a polished aluminum short water pump and polished aluminum upper and lower pulley's. Problem is my 3"-4" fan spacer that came with the engine...that goes on the front of the upper pulley and then the fan bolts thru to the WP, no longer matches up to the holes. Do I need a special fan spacer for doing what I'm doing here?

You shouldn't need anything else. My brother has short w/p and I have long w/p and we have switched fans and spacers before with no problems. The only thing you would really need is a longer spacer since your fan will be further from the Rad.

Well, I guess I need the right fan spacer unit....the one I have will not fit due to the holes not matching up. Who sells these fan spacers??? Ebay???

Autozone or advance has them, they are usually near their flex fans they sell. They usually have several different choices. If the spacer holes don't match up, then your fan holes most likely won't line up either, may need to get a new fan/spacer. I thought the short and long pumps had the same hole pattern

The earlier short pumps had a smaller hole pattern.

I found a nice billet polished aluminum 3 1/2" fan spacer on ebay. If my fan doesn't fit or work with it I'll get a new fan...PERFECT!!!! Thanks Guys!!!

agree with 70 short/step. if your fan and spacer worked before and don't now then the problem is with the new water pump.
