vortec engine question
I posted this in the 88-98 board as well, but I know a few of you guys run late model engines and may be able to help me out. I am putting a four bolt main pre-86 block into my 98 model z71 with a blown engine. I am planning on putting the heads and fuel injection on the pre-86 motor. I was told the 98 harmonic balancer would not work on the older engine. If this is true will the old style harmonic balancer line my pulleys up correctly? Will the flexplate from a th350 work for the 4l80e? I was told the 98 flexplate would not work. Also will the front cover/crank sensor bolt up to my block. Any other problems I may run into?

I have just installed a 1996 Vortec in my 70. I used pulleys off of old small blocks, and they bolt right up to the vortec harmonic balance. I hope someone else will chime in on the balance compatability. Your question about the flywheel...I dont think yours will work due to a rear main seal change in 86-87(they went to a one piece). I have been suprised how almost evevy thing has bolted into place on my swap. Good Luck!

A 98 is externally balanced 350, a pre 86 is internally balanced. You will need the right flexplate and balancer for your engine. I think (not for sure) the TH350 felxplate should work for hte 4L60E.
