bucket seats (pic)

Sometime down the road I'd like to put original bucket seats back in the '67. Current seats are nice but bulky, and I need to slide back another inch or so.

How hard is it to find original buckets? Seems the only ones I've seen are used in ratty condition. I wouldn't even mind adapting brackets from 68-72 to make 'em fit.

What are some other replacements that look original and not too bulky?

Buckets are not super hard to find on this board, but your right - they normally will need to be redone. Foam kits and vinal kits are available to get them looking bran new but be ready to spend $600 or more to restore a set.

I am in the process of restoring a set now, plus a few minor customisations. Ive been at it for 6 weekends straight and still not done. But then again this is my first set and Im slow

Thanks a bunch. PO spent like $1800 on the interior from Wabbit's. Seats are what they put in conversion vans I think, also have the armrests which haven't been attached. Wabbits also made the console and did the wood dash, arm rests, etc.

It all looks great, cushy soft leather, but for a daily driver I'd do different. In addition to needing to slide back a bit, the console makes it hard reach to passenger window crank and door lock, so I'd like a center seat (to match orig buckets) that would fold down w/cup holders and storage in the back.

Not in a hurry to do it, and would have to get some $$$ outta my interior to pay for it.

Thanks for the word Wes. That's very close to what I'm looking for.
How expensive and difficult is it to refoam and recover these kinda seats??

On a related note, I'd probably want head rests for driver/pass. I've seen outfits that put h-rests in old vehicles. Anybody know anything about how that would factor into restoring this type of buckets?

New seat uhpolstery runs about $250.00 or so. Do it yourself that is what it is. I had a set redone for me (custom made) and it was $350.00 WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Stay tuned man, you just described exactly what I am 60% done with. 68 3pc seats, restored to look like stock 71 buckets, center buddy seat with storage, flip down armrest, cupholders, and built in speaker box. Unfortunately, I now must wait 4 weeks for my black and green houndstooth covers

When Im done, I will post a butload of pics

It looks to me that the leather buckets in there now are very close to where you would be with a stock bench seat or am I How tall are you and how cramped is it? I would love the comfy seats too, but I'm 6'4" and am a little cramped with a stock bench seat now. What would you be asking for the leather buckets? Randy

An inch or two diff between these and standard seats won't show in a pic I don't think. It's not really cramped, it's just the angle I have to hold my foot on the gas makes the ankle sore after about an hour of driving (I'm under 6ft).

I'd have to get some others ready to install before yanking these, so it'd be awhile. I'd hope to get enough to cover the cost of putting some original buckets in there, but haven't decided how much to ask yet. Will let you guys know when I do.
